A ride through the Indian desert landscapes is enough to get an adventure rider sit up and take notice! Rajasthan- An arid land in the north Western region of India is a dream for any motorcycle traveller. This ‘royal’ state in West India has a large desert mass - the Thar desert and is famous for some of the most glorious royal palaces from the bygone era. A motorcycle ride through the ever changing terrain, from dirt trails to the fast winding black top towards Jaisalmer will evoke a feeling of kings from the bygone days on one day and an encounter with colourful and happy local tribes travelling with their camels for trade and living a life of hardship is an extremely humbling feeling on another day.
During India’s winter season, travellers from the world over visit Rajasthan to experience the sheer diversity of this land. From experience we know the real beauty of Rajasthan can be truly experienced when you wind your way through the scenic back country roads and not necessarily stick to the major highways and we have designed this ride to give you the best of both worlds! A ride through the local villages, spending time interacting with the locals, stopping at a hard to find oasis in the middle of nowhere and encounters with camels wandering around majestically will leave a deep impression in your mind. On this ride, you visit the world's only Rat temple, pay tribute at the world’s only temple where a Royal Enfield motorcycle is worshipped, experience life in the blue city of Jodhpur and ride through some dense jungle trails! Not to mention, staying in heritage luxury hotels and visiting royal palaces along the way just completes the experience! We are confident that the Throttle Out Rajasthan tour will get you up, close and personal with the colorful, diverse and vibrant culture of this arid land which once was ruled by the famous warrior tribe – Rajputs. There is no better way to experience this land other than, on dual sport motorcycles.
We welcome you to our capital city, New Delhi and make sure you are settled in and comfortable while we get your Royal Enfield Himalayans ready for the desert run. A dinner with drinks follows enabling us to break the ice and have a nice chat about riding in India.
We have planned for months and are now finally here! Let the ride begin. We head out of New Delhi before the city wakes up and enjoy riding some of the dual carriageways to take us out of the city chaos. What follows is simply unique! We ride through the Rewari region and onto small country roads where traffic is less but hey, this is India! An odd cattle or dog straying onto the highway is normal and will surely keep things interesting. We wind our way to a small quaint village of Alsisar and spend the night at a beautiful heritage hotel. From here we head towards Shekhawati in western Rajasthan.
Today is the day when the ride really comes to life. We leave Alsisar and ride on blissful country roads crossing through lush green farms. The chaos and colors of Rajasthan will soon take over and transport you into a bygone era. The perfect day to enjoy your dual sport motorcycles as the terrain changes from narrow lanes to a dusty stretch leading towards Bikaner. We stop at Fatehpur and soak in the rural vibe (a million clicks await!). The next 160 odd km’s are on black top as we ride in formation to the outpost city of Bikaner and check in to a luxury property. Post our ride we take some noisy yet charming tuk-tuks into the city and experience the Junagarh fort and some light local snacks before heading back to the hotel for dinner and chilled beer.
We wake up and pack today with one thing in mind - soak in the desert scenery! The route is a mix of narrow trails and black top which are sandy at times. It can’t get better than this. First stop is at the one and only rat temple in the world in Deshnok. A sight to behold with devotees from nearby regions worshipping and feeding rats. Next, the deep sand section awaits all of us for a wee bit of fun! We get back on the main highway and ‘Throttle out’ the last 260 km’s to reach the farthest most point of our ride- Jaisalmer city- a dune city! We spend the evening drinking fine wine and soak in the clear skies and the breathtaking Jaisalmer fort glowing under the moonlight!
We ride to the famous Sam dunes post breakfast or just walk around in the city to soak in the local vibes and experience the awe inspiring Jaisalmer Fort.
After recharging our batteries today we are all set to ride the ‘interiors’ through the Desert National park and enjoy the sight of camels in their natural habitat while we ride on numerous sandy trail roads as we head southeast towards Jodhpur- “The Blue City”. This leg offers us almost two hundred miles of exhilarating roads and friendly encounters with farmers and camel herds. The desert roads eventually turn into good bitumen and we ride the final 120 km to the buzzy yet unique blue city of Jodhpur. After a cracking day on the saddle, we call it a day and check into a luxury hotel overlooking the Mehrangarh fort!
Today is a special day as we witness the world famous “Bullet temple” in the outskirts of Jodhpur, where you will get a chance to worship a standard 350 Royal Enfield Bullet (Legend has it, on his way from Pali to Chotila, Om Singh Rathore crashed his motorcycle into a tree, allegedly while riding drunk. After the police hauled the bike away to the station, it was mysteriously discovered back at the site of the accident the next morning. Thinking this was a prank, the police took the bike, emptied the gas tank and chained it up. The very next day the chains were found broken and the bike was once again found at the site of the accident!!) Post this visit, we ride through narrow country roads and cross old towns like Desuri and Nadol which are rich in Jain culture with numerous temples. Post lunch at Ranakpur we take the lush green twisties of the Ranakpur forest region and enjoy the scenic route with small villages to stop at and talk to the locals and understand their way of life. The road eventually joins a dual carriageway which takes us all the way to the Venice of the east - the beautiful lake city of Udaipur.
In Udaipur, the evening is all ours to roam around in this city dotted with classy cafes, shops selling traditional artefacts, jewellery and local cuisine etc.
It’s a leisure day today and we visit the pristine City Palace and soak in the opulence of the bygone era. Post lunch we visit the Maharajas vintage car collection and enjoy a boat ride at Lake Pichola and look at the sun go down for a truly memorable day of this trip!
We say goodbye to the lake city and proceed back to the Aravalli hill range as today we witness the world famous Kumbhalgarh fort - the second largest wall after the Great Wall of China! We ride at leisure and a hot chai stop enroute is never enough. Post the fort visit we ride down through little villages and twisty roads to reach a quaint town full of character called Deogarh.
Experience the entrance to this town as we wind our way through the Mahal gates and check in to the classy and vintage Deogarh Mahal. The famous “lal maas” or red meat is served today with choice of fine wines and chilled beer to help you relax and rejuvenate after a brilliant day in the saddle.
We relax today and visit to the local market and do souvenir shopping at our own pace. There is an option to go into the wild nearby to try and spot some tigers while lunch is served in the forest area. Enjoy a unique evening with local Rajasthani dancers entertaining you with their craft.
We say goodbye to the ever helpful locals and get back on the main highway for a short duration before taking a detour into the empty back roads leading to our next destination-the sacred and holy town of Pushkar - with the only Lord “Brahma” temple in the world. The trails take us through quiet forest roads and we pass few villages before getting on to the fast highways leading us to Pushkar. if you want to feel the ancient way of living and moving around, this region has it all! The dirt road which is sandy at places needs to be ridden carefully before we enter a luxury resort in Pushkar. We walk around the narrow by lanes of Pushkar town and soak in the local vibes.
Every rider dreams of going full throttle in an empty desert land to his heart's content once in their riding life! Your prayers will be answered today as we leave the holy town of Pushkar and ride through some narrow farm tracks before coming to a large empty salt flat- the Sambhar Lake! This is “flat out” heaven but we stick together and follow the ride leader as getting lost here does not take time. After a good hard ride with amazing action cam footage we retreat to the Sambhar heritage property and enjoy a bonfire with good food and beer and relive the memories.
It’s a short and easy ride today as we negotiate the backroads and after 100 km’s reach the bustling Pink city of Jaipur. The traffic here is a thing to behold and will give every rider a taste of something what we call - orderly chaos! We spend the day riding up to the Amer and Nahargarh fort for a birds eye view of the city and also visit the world's largest canon! We dine at a famous eatery in the city and savour spicy Rajasthani cuisine and call it a day.
The last day of our Rajasthan tour will see us riding from Jaipur post breakfast and it’s a smooth ride today as we Throttle out towards our home base, New Delhi for an unforgettable 14 day Rajasthan ride! We end the ride with some time in a local pub!
Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye! However, in case you intend to stay a few more days in India, the Throttle Out team would be more than happy to guide you on how to plan your remaining days and help you make the necessary arrangements.
